Breathing Apparatus for Rescue Training Course
Training Course Content
US: 3272 Wear and operate breathing apparatus in general emergencies level 3 credits 3.
Key components of the training are to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of BA and its effects on the physiology of the human body);
- Wear the BA in actual or practical simulated conditions;
- Manage the BA for safe use and survivability;
- Shut down and recommission the BA.
Training will comply with the requirements of the appropriate NZ and Australian standards as there is no code of practice for breathing apparatus use.
AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment; AS/NZ 1716:2012 Respiratory protective devices; and AS 2865:2009 Confined spaces.
All assessment will be carried out during the course.

Duration | 8am–4.30pm. 1 day training course. |
Numbers | Minimum of 4 participants maximum of 8. |
Facilities & Equipment | Can be provided on your work site or at the Mines Rescue Station. Mines Rescue breathing apparatus will be used for the training ensuring that your equipment remains in service and is ready to be deployed. |
Refreshers | To ensure that competency is retained we would suggest that staff attend 3 refreshers per year of 3-4 hours duration. The refreshers are practical and ensure staff remain familiar with the equipment and its protocols for use. Mines Rescue would provide equipment for the refreshers ensuring that your equipment is remains in service and is ready to be deployed. Refreshers could be carried out at the Mines Rescue Station or in a practical on site it deployment and emergency procedures needed to be tested for a particular task. |
